Nicole Orford of Burnaby, B.C., and Thomas Williams of Okotoks, Alta., won ice dance gold medal at a junior grand prix figure skating event Saturday.

Liam Firus of North Vancouver, B.C., added a bronze in men's singles as well.

Orford and Williams, third after the short dance Friday, registered a personal-best of 127.21 points skating to music from Gone with the Wind in their long program. Americans Lauri Bonacorsi and Travis Mager were second with 123.62 while Russians Valeria Zenkova and Valerie Sinitsin took third with 122.35.

`'It's great to get the win," said Williams, 20, in his second season skating with Orford. `'We really didn't know what to expect coming into this competition.

"We just wanted to duplicate what we did in practice."

American Jason Brown won the men's event with 197.23 points while Japan's Keiji Tanaka was second with 192.36. Firus posted a career-best 180.00 points for third.

`'I made a couple of mistakes but I fought through it," said Firus, 19, third after the short program Thursday. `'I've made a couple of changes in my jump order this year and that's been a challenge.

"I didn't put the triple Axel in tonight but I'm confident it's a jump I will acquire later this year."
