Olympic champion Kevin Martin remained unbeaten at the Canada Cup of Curling, easily defeating Brent Bawel 8-2 in six ends Friday.
After Bawel (1-4) opened the scoring with one in the first end, Martin scored in the next four, including three points in the fifth end.
Bawel scored one in the sixth, but didn't close the gap enough and the teams shook hands.
Martin (4-0) remained alone in first place in Section A.
Also in Draw 9, Mike McEwen remained on Martin's tail, improving to 4-1 with a 7-3 win over Serge Reid (1-4). McEwen clinched the win with three points in the eighth and final end.
Meanwhile, Jeff Stoughton improved to 3-2 with a 9-5 win over Rob Fowler (0-5).
On the women's side, Olympic silver medallist Cheryl Bernard (4-1) took over first place in Section B with a 7-1 rout of Amber Holland (2-2).
The match was over when Bernard scored three in the decisive sixth end.
Stefanie Lawton (4-1) remained in second place in Section A, scoring three in an extra end in and 8-5 win over Chelsea Carey (1-3).
Earlier on Friday, Glenn Howard and Shannon Kleibrink each remained undefeated and atop their groups with eighth-draw victories.
Howard improved to 4-0 atop Section B in the men's standings with a 6-4 win over Mat Camm (0-5). That kept him ahead of Kevin Koe (3-1), who's in action in Friday's late draw.
Randy Ferbey, meanwhile, fell from the ranks of the unbeaten with an 8-3 loss to McEwen.
Kleibrink moved to 4-0 atop Section A in the women's competition with a 10-6 win over Shelley Nichols (0-5).
