Canadian Milos Raonic has advanced to the third round at the Australian Open after defeating Spain's Tommy Robredo in straight sets on Thursday.
The 25-year-old Raonic beat Robredo in second-round play, 7-6, 7-6, 7-5. The match took two hours 55 minutes to complete.
Raonic, from Thornhill, Ont., held the advantage with his service game. He had 23 aces and won 82 per cent of his first serve points while Robredo had zero aces and won just 63 per cent of his first serves.
Raonic, however, kept the match much closer than it needed to be with 59 unforced errors, compared to just 17 for his opponent.
The Canadian will play either American Tim Smyczek or Serbia's Viktor Troicki in the third round.
