Cycling

Canada won bronze in the women's track cycling team pursuit. Montreal's Kirsti Lay, Calgary's Allison Beveridge, Georgia Simmerling of West Vancouver, B.C., and Jasmin Glaesser of Vancouver defeated New Zealand to take third place.

Earlier in the day, Britain defeated Canada in world-record time (4:12.152) to advance to the final against the United States.

Track and Field

Brianne Theisen-Eaton won the bronze medal in the women's heptathlon. The medal is Canada's first in track and field at these Games, and matches the one medal — a bronze in high jump by Derek Drouin — at the 2012 London Olympics.

On the men's side, Andre De Grasse had his first Olympics run, posting a 10.04 second run to win his heat and punch his ticket to the semi-final. The world No. 1, Usain Bolt, meanwhile, won his heat to advance to the semi-final as well. If things go as planned, De Grasse will be racing Bolt for the gold medal on Sunday.

It's the last day of swimming at the Olympics.

The women's 4x100-metre medley relay team were unable to add to their medal total at the Rio Olympics, posting a fifth-place finish in the 4x100-metre medal relay.

In men's swimming, Canada's Ryan Cochrane came sixth in the 1,500-metre freestyle event with a time of 14:49.61. Gregorio Paltrinieri of Italy won the gold medal in the event while American Connor Jaeger came second and Italian Gabriele Detti came third.

Beach Volleyball

Heather Bansley and Sarah Pavan defeated fellow Canadians Jamie Broder and Kristina Valjas in an all-Canadian match on the sand by a score of 2-0.



On the men’s side, Canada’s Ben Saxton and Chaim Shalker fell to the Netherlands 2-0.
