Canada captain Alphonso Davies returned to action for Bayern Munich on Tuesday, his first appearance in 262 days since suffering a serious knee injury.
The 25-year-old from Edmonton came in off the bench in the 88th minute in Bayern’s 3-1 win over Portuguese champion Sporting Lisbon in Champions League play at Allianz Arena.
Josip Stanisic started in the left back role for Bayern. But Davies had hinted on the Film Never Lies podcast Monday that coach Vincent Kompany could put him into the game.

“I’m not sure if I will get minutes,” he said. “I mean, that’s up to the coach.”
Davies replaced German international Serge Gnabry, one of Bayern’s goal-scorers.
The left back hadn’t played since he was injured in March while playing for Canada against the United States in a CONCACAF Nations League third-place game. Davies tore a ligament and sustained other damage in his right knee.
That injury prompted Bayern to criticize the Canadian national team, alleging Davies hadn’t been given proper medical checks on the injury before boarding a flight back to Germany.
