Bolton Wanderers fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Birmingham City on Sunday and partly save the blushes of their goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen who was sent off for a senseless foul in the first half.
The Finland international goalkeeper slapped Birmingham's Roger Johnson in the face as he was about to apologise for a clumsy, but not dangerous challenge, after 37 minutes, but the keeper instead whacked him in the face and was shown an immediate red card by the referee.
Johnson had put Birmingham ahead after four minutes with his first goal for the club, and the visitors, unbeaten in their opening two games, doubled their lead when Craig Gardner scored from point-blank range after a header from Cameron Jerome five minutes after halftime.
Bolton, also unbeaten after their first two games, began their fightback when Johnson was penalised for a 71st minute foul on Kevin Davies who struck home his 100th league goal with a well-struck penalty into the roof of Ben Foster's net.
Ten minutes later Robbie Blake scored his first goal for Bolton, against his old club, with a free-kick that left Foster stranded.
In other action on Sunday Liverpool were at home to West Bromwich Albion, Sunderland were playing Manchester City and Aston Villa were at home to Everton.
