Flag sellers in Canada report that business is booming.

"Without the World Cup everything is targeted to Canadian flags, primarily for individuals who have cottages ..." says Irwin Woodrow, president of The Flag Shop in Toronto, which has franchises across the country.

"Now with the World Cup it's the 32 teams that we're selling for."

Guy Gauthier, who hawks flags for the company out of Winnipeg, says the sale of foreign flags "are flying out the door. There's no doubt the international flags of the World Cup teams are moving quicker than Canada's flag right now."

Brazil's flag is the top seller for the company, with England and Italy a close second. Sales of the Maple Leaf are off almost 50 per cent from a normal June.

"We'll probably pick up in the next week or two with Canada Day coming up," Woodrow said.
