Spanish striker Raul Gonzalez said Sunday he would see out his contract with Schalke, ending transfer speculation linking him with a move away from the Bundesliga club.
Raul told Schalke's website that he felt "at home" at the club and that "the affection shown to me by the Schalke fans is extraordinary and unforgettable ... I'm definitely staying at Schalke and will honour my contract."
Raul said he had no problems with coach Ralf Rangnick and that "we're all concentrated on together achieving the best for Schalke this season."
The 34-year-old former Real Madrid player — who turned down a move to Premier League side Blackburn on Tuesday — has a contract with Schalke until 2012.
Raul — the Champions League's top scorer with 71 goals — was left out of Schalke's squad for the 2-0 loss at HJK Helsinki in their Europa League playoff on Thursday, prompting speculation he wished to leave.
"I spoke with the coach and we both decided that I take a break to complete special individual training. There's nothing else to say about that," Raul said.
Raul said he handled all the speculation "with peace and serenity."
"I am lucky enough to have a great family," he said. "My wife and children are fully integrated into life in Germany and I am proud to play in the Bundesliga."
