Captain Wayne Rooney scored twice as England beat fierce rival Scotland 3-1 in a friendly match at Celtic Park on Tuesday.

England took the lead in the 32nd minute, when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain headed an ambitious diagonal crossfield pass from Jack Wilshere beyond David Marshall.

Rooney then doubled England's lead in the 47th, heading in after Scotland failed to clear James Milner's free-kick.

Andrew Robertson gave Scotland fans hope late on with a well taken goal in the 83rd, but any encouragement Gordon Strachan's side had gained was lost two minutes later when Rooney smashed in a cutback from Adam Lallana to finish a neat passing move and secure victory for Roy Hodgson's side.
