David Parkinson is Deputy Head of Newsroom Development for The Globe and Mail. He covered business and financial markets from 1990 until early 2024, when he started his current position, and has been with The Globe and Mail since 2000. In his years with The Globe, he has been an energy reporter, an editorial writer, a financial-markets columnist, and spent two years as Investment Editor. He was an economics columnist/reporter from 2014 to 2024. A Calgary native, he holds an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Calgary, and Masters in Journalism from the University of Western Ontario. He received a Southam Fellowship from the University of Toronto in 1999-2000, studying international political economics.
