John Turley-Ewart is a contributing columnist for The Globe and Mail. His writing explores banking, business and economic issues and appears in the Globe’s Report on Business Opinion section.
He joined The Globe in 2000 as an editorial writer and worked in media for a decade, serving as a senior opinion editor at the National Post and later the Financial Post.
In 2010 he joined RBC as a Senior Advisor to the bank’s Chief Compliance Officer. Working in Toronto and New York City, John helped implement global regulatory programs in the bank’s capital markets division. In 2014 he formed his own regulatory risk management consulting business and specializes in regulatory implementation, change management and policy analysis.
John has also represented clients with regulators and industry associations in Canada and the U.S., shaping regulatory change in the process.
John attended the University of Toronto where he obtained a BA and MA in History and completed a PhD, specializing in Canadian banking history and writing a history of the Canadian Bankers’ Association. He graduated from Western University’s MBA program with distinction and is an Ivey Scholar.
