Michal Stein started working with The Decibel, The Globe's daily news podcast, in 2021, and became a full-time producer on the show in 2024. She's produced episodes on Canadian and American politics, international conflicts, elections, business news, and culture stories.

Prior to joining The Globe, Michal worked as an independent producer and writer. She was a founding producer on the Toronto Star's politics podcast, It's Political with Althia Raj, where she produced in-depth audio documentaries. She began her journalism career at HuffPost Canada and Yahoo Canada in 2019.

Why did you become a journalist?

I believe that a well-informed public makes our democracy stronger, and that truly human stories can foster empathy among strangers.
