Canada is facing a health workforce shortage, and often, volunteers are stepping in to fill some of those gaps. From navigating hospital hallways to providing companionship or emotional and social care, this often-invisible workforce has become an essential part of our health care system.
These are the drivers who power Meals on Wheels, and the entertainers who donate their time to brighten dreary days for patients in the pediatric wing.
For a future series, The Globe and Mail would like to spotlight people who volunteer in Canada’s health care system, working to make a difference within structures that don’t always run smoothly.
If you volunteer, or know someone who does, in the health care system, let us know about your experiences in the box below or send an email to audience@globeandmail.com.
