Daiichi Sankyo Co. (DSKYF) has launched a new early stage cancer study titled “A Phase 1b/2, Multicenter, 2-part, Open-label Trial to Evaluate DS-3939a in Participants With Solid Tumors.” The trial aims to test safety and early effectiveness of DS-3939a in serious solid tumors, mainly advanced and metastatic lung cancer, a large market with high unmet need.
The study tests DS-3939a as an IV cancer drug alone or in combinations. Key regimens pair DS-3939a with Merck’s pembrolizumab plus standard chemo drugs carboplatin or pemetrexed. A second part explores DS-3939a with another Daiichi Sankyo asset, DS-1103a, as well as DS-3939a alone.
This is an interventional trial where all patients receive active treatment rather than placebo. Groups are assigned in a non random way to different drug mixes, and doctors and patients know which drugs are given. The main goal is treatment focused, with part 1 finding suitable doses and part 2 expanding into more patients.
The study was first submitted on July 28, 2026, which signals the formal start of planning and regulatory review. The same date is listed as the latest update, showing this is a fresh protocol. Primary and final completion dates are not yet posted, which is typical for a new Phase 1b/2 study and implies a multi year timeline.
For investors, this update adds another early oncology asset to DSKYF’s pipeline alongside its existing antibody drug conjugates. Success here could deepen its role in lung cancer, a space dominated by Merck (MRK) and others, and support long term valuation and partnership options. Near term, sentiment impact is modest, but active development helps underpin growth narratives.
The study remains in the startup phase and is not yet recruiting; investors can track future protocol updates and results on the ClinicalTrials.gov portal under NCT07739966.
