Profile

Honda Motor Co Ltd was incorporated on September 24, 1948 under the Commercial Code of Japan as Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki Kaisha. The Company develops, produces, and manufactures motor products, including small general-purpose engines and scooters and specialty sports cars. Its business segments are the Motorcycle business, Automobile business, Financial services business, and Power product and other businesses. In Motorcycle business segment produces motorcycles, ranging from the 50cc class to the 1800cc class in cylinder displacement. Its motorcycles use internal combustion engines developed by the Company that are air- or water-cooled, four-cycle, and single, two, four or six-cylinder. Its motorcycle line consists of sports (including trial and moto-cross racing), business and commuter models. It has also produced all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and multi utility vehicles (MUVs). Its automobiles segment use gasoline engines of three, four or six-cylinder, diesel engines, gasoline-electric hybrid systems and gasoline-electric plug-in hybrid systems. The Company also offers alternative fuel-powered vehicles such as natural gas, ethanol, electric and fuel cell vehicles. The Company offers financial services to its customers and dealers through finance subsidiaries in countries including Japan, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Brazil and Thailand, with the aim of providing sales support for its products. The services of these subsidiaries include retail lending, leasing to customers and other financial services, such as wholesale financing to dealers. The Power Product and Other Businesses segment includes tillers, portable generators, general-purpose engines, grass cutters, outboard marine engines, water pumps, snow throwers, power carriers, power sprayers, lawn mowers and lawn tractors (riding lawn mowers). It owns more than 20,800 patents in Japan and more than 25,900 patents abroad.
