Plains All American Pipeline and Plains GP Holdings announced on June 1, 2026 that Russ Montgomery will be promoted to Vice President, Accounting and Chief Accounting Officer of their respective general partners, effective September 1, 2026. The move follows the planned retirement of longtime senior finance executive Chris Herbold on August 31, 2026, and positions Montgomery, a 24-year company veteran with progressively senior accounting roles, to lead the partnership’s accounting function and maintain continuity in its financial reporting and controls.
Montgomery has served as Vice President, Controller of Plains All American since 2019, after earlier roles including Controller, Director of Operational Accounting, Manager of Crude Oil Accounting and SEC and Financial Reporting Senior Analyst. His elevation, following experience that also includes four years at Arthur Andersen, underscores the company’s reliance on deep internal expertise for leadership succession in its finance organization, a key area for investor confidence and regulatory compliance.
