Simon Property ( (SPG) ) has shared an update.
On March 23, 2026, Simon Property Group announced that David Simon, its long-serving chairman, chief executive and president, died on March 22, 2026 at age 64 after a battle with cancer. The board, employees and wider Simon community paid tribute to his three-decade tenure, during which he transformed a regional family firm into the world’s largest retail real estate company, delivering more than 4,500% total shareholder return and reshaping the sector through major acquisitions and portfolio reinvestment.
To ensure leadership continuity, the board appointed Eli Simon as chief executive and president, in addition to his roles as chief operating officer and director, and named Larry Glasscock non-executive chairman. The company emphasized that long-standing succession planning and a deep executive bench will allow operations to continue without interruption, aiming to preserve David Simon’s legacy and reassure shareholders, partners, tenants, employees and lenders about the stability of its strategy and assets.

Overall score reflects strong operating performance and cash flow supported by positive guidance and solid property-level metrics, plus attractive valuation (low P/E and ~4.2% yield). The main risk tempering the score is the leveraged capital structure and sensitivity to higher interest expense/tenant stress highlighted in the latest update.
