Donna Clare, the architect behind the Walterdale Bridge and Royal Alberta Museum in Edmonton, designed her two-bedroom home with an L-shaped footprint, sloping metal rooflines and walls of windows overlooking a landscaped courtyard. Anyone curious to peek inside could surf through online photographs of the 26-year-old home once it was listed for $1,398,000 in August. A handful of serious buyers arranged private tours.
“The home is highly unique and only serves a certain demographic, meaning it wasn’t suitable for large families with little kids,” said agent Clare Packer.
“We were expecting a low level of showings, but a high degree of online interest that would translate into select viewings.”
Within one week, one interested party recognized the value in paying full price for a well-built home on a premium 63- by 117-foot corner lot.
“It was on a double lot, and it’s so interesting architecturally,” said Ms. Packer.
“The mechanical components and structural integrity of the home were totally unique as well, with steel beams, concrete-poured floors with an in-floor heating system and a commercial-grade roof.”
