The action

This semi-detached house was spruced up for buyers with a fresh paint job and got 17 visitors over one weekend in May, despite there being several other similar homes for sale nearby in the area north of the Canada’s Wonderland amusement park off Highway 400. By Monday, the first of five offers arrived.

“There was other inventory in the area selling for less, and we didn’t think we’d get that much traction,” agent Gary Cirillo said.

“The amount of showings and offers we got was pretty crazy.”

This three-bedroom home likely benefited from a basement set-up appealing to first-time buyers or investors, with a kitchen, laundry room, full bathroom and a separate entrance.

“You could get extra income with the basement,” Mr. Cirillo said.

“There was a second laundry room upstairs already in place, which helps if someone wants to rent out the basement.”

The agent’s take

“It’s close to schools, highways, hospitals and shopping,” Mr. Cirillo said.

“There’s transit, too, like the YRT, or you can drive to the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre [TTC subway station].”
