As the weather is starting to get better, more Canadians are thinking about getting into running, either as a competitive sport or just a way to stay healthy. And what a time to get started – running clubs are invading sidewalks across the country, and marathons are filling up with avid runners.

But knowing where to start can be a challenge, and especially how to do it safely.

Reporters Alex Cyr and Ben Kaplan answered reader questions on how to get into running, both as a hobby and competitively. Cyr wrote a series for The Globe on how to prepare for long-distance running competitions and the most common misconceptions about starting to run, and Kaplan is the author of Feet, Don’t Fail Me Now: The Rogue’s Guide to Running the Marathon and the editor of iRun Magazine.
